The keto diet changes the way your body converts food into energy. Eating a lot of fat and very few carbs puts you in ketosis, a metabolic state where your body burns fat instead of carbs for fuel. When your body is unable to get glucose from carbs, your liver converts fatty acids from your diet into ketones, an alternative source of energy. Burning ketones in place of glucose reduces inflammation and spurs weight loss.[1]
6. Don’t obsessively plan everything and overwhelm yourself so it feels harder than it has to. This may be controversial for some, but I’m here to tell you not to worry about calories, or nitrates, or Omega 3 vs Omega 6, or if the meat you’re eating skipped about on acres of lush pastureland, while being hand fed organic vegan feed by the tiny perfect hands of 1000 virgin milkmaids.
I totally understand how you feel! 😊 But the truth is that most people can't do that... speaking from my own experience. When I started following a low-carb diet my palate was completely different to what it is now and I couldn't imagine skipping sweeteners, bread alternatives and other substitutes. They helped me transition into the way I eat now. These days I don't use any sweeteners - or just a small amount in occasional treats. I keep my diet very simple and often cook with just 5-10 ingredients.

Thank you SO much for the breakdown. This is an excellent list that I am going to take with me to the store from now on. I haven’t started on the diet as of yet because I was trying to put a grocery list together. This list has been one of VERY few that have the foods and the guided amount without having to pay an absurd amount of money for a list of food you can and cant eat. There weren’t any recommended amounts to eat for the meat section and wanted to know if you had any recommendations for portions. Thanks again for taking time to get wonderful information out there.
I found the salt to be too much, but it may be my brand of sea salt. I use eggs from a local farm and use a good quality olive oil (Braggs), because a lot of olive oils have been shown to have a cheaper oils mixed in. I add a pinch of smoked paprika (see Mountain Rose Herbs for a great source of pure herbs and spices). I usually don’t put the lemon in, but always use the whey. It helps it last a really long time. I thought this might be helpful for those who can’t use dairy (minus the whey, of course).

It’s definitely not for everyone, lol! We prefer to focus on all the delicious, nutrient-dense real foods we can have instead of thinking about the foods we try to avoid. We’ve actually never felt restricted while living a keto lifestyle (take a look at our Recipes page and you’ll see what we mean). We noticed that when we nourish ourselves, our health improves and we feel better in so many different ways. We wish you success in whatever lifestyle works best for you!
I’m also going to note that I consider this a diet for your introductory period, as I’ve always added berries and other things in after a couple of weeks with no bad effects. Thomas delauer diet plan guidebook by Thomas Delauer is a very informative course that is geared towards creating awareness to individuals about the most effective and efficient means of transforming their body metabolism in a natural way. This allows their body to have the ability to burn the additional fat well, while they continue to enjoy the healthy and delicious foods that are around them. The course claims that when you follow the professional advice it offers you to the latter, your body will have the ability to achieve about twenty to thirty percent more energy in a natural way while giving your body an opportunity to adapt to healthier conditions. This program that was designed by Thomas Delauer is not aimed at restricting food intake or counting calories, but it is about eating and enjoying the right foods in your life.
One cup of 2% fat plain Greek yogurt has about 10g net carbs. If you plan to restrict yourself to 20g net carbs a day, that will already be half of your allowance. So most people avoid yogurt or only eat a small amount of it. For example, I use 1 cup of Greek yogurt to make slow cooker chicken tikka masala, but since it’s spread out among 4 servings, its carb impact per serving is low.
Doing a 1:1 substitution would probably change the macros too much but that doesn’t mean that you have to eat dairy to eat a ketogenic diet. If you want to use the meal plan you’d have to adjust it with other sources of fat so that you match the macros. It will require a little work (I recommend using an online diary like MyFitnessPal for support) but you’ll end up with a plan that works for you and your needs
That doesn’t mean you’ll go hungry on a diet. It’s quite the opposite! You’re not starving yourself of calories but of carbohydrates. Your body won’t go into what’s known as starvation mode, which is where your metabolic rate drops considerably. You’re adding more fat to the diet and taking out the carbs, so the metabolism can still work, and you get the energy you need.
